Happy Halloween!

What do you do when two of your kids want to go trick-or-treating, but you know without a doubt that your third child will refuse to wear a costume? And doesn't like to walk in public?

Well.... ya gotta get a little creative!


Sim turned an old washing machine box into The Mystery Machine Van and we all went as the Scooby-Doo Gang.

Nandi (aka "Little Diva") insisted on being Daphne because "Mommmmmy! You look just like Velma!"

I refused to spend $24.99 on a red "Daphne" wig... but I think she looks really beautiful with her dark hair.

The green scarf around her neck was fashioned out a pair of old green tights. Reduce. Reuse. Recycle!


Shaggy... meet your father.

Eli met up with a friend from school (aka Darth Vader) and I had to take a pic because "Hooray! Eli has friends!!". That's actually a big deal if you've been following our blog for awhile.

And do you like the soul patch? Kudos to you, Mr. Sharpie Marker.

The wig is one of those cheap Donald Trump wigs from Walmart. We hacked it off with a pair of scissors and turned it sideways and voila! Hello, Shaggy.


I always knew Fred had a thing for Velma. I just knew it.

Sim decided that we should rename The Mystery Machine "The Chick Magnet" or "Chick Mobile" because, let me tell ya, little Noah was gathering up quite a crowd of the...uh... female persuasion.

He was one popular little dude last night.

Ha! I <3 this! Super creative! Micah was a robot. A box from work, tin foil, and some cheap plastic junk from the Dollar Tree...voila! A costume. :) Love it!

Acceptance and Moving Forward

It's been so long since I posted here. I wasn't even sure that I would remember my password. And, actually, I really haven't planned anything to write out, but I just had this overwhelming urge to post today. Maybe so that I can look back on this post next year and see how far we've come, I'm not sure. But here we are... and here I am.... 2016 was a challenge. Not just for our family, but for everyone it seems. I look around and 2016 just seems to be a year of hurt. It was a tough year on so many levels.  A little over a year ago, on December 23, 2015, we were told that my husband most likely had a certain lung condition that gave him only three years to live. We are so fortunate that it was NOT what they thought, but it led us straight into 2016 full of fear and despair.... feelings which continue all the way through today.... and may lead into 2017. Noah said, "I love you, Mom"!!!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! I can't believe it!!! I walked by him sitting at the table and kissed him on the head and said, "Have I told you this morning how much I love you?" And he said, "Iduvumum" Of course, I was stunned. And I said, "Noah, did you just say, "I love you mom? Yes or No?" And he said, "Esssss" Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!! Of course I cried. And called Sim. And called my mom. And Noah was so pleased with himself that he took me by the hand and led me straight to the TV so that he could watch an Elmo video. I guess he thought, "Hey, I told you I love you, so now I get a freebie." This officially goes down in history as the best day of my life. (Doing carthwheels and happy dances and thanking Jesus).
